Summary

Angaston, showing "New Inn" on left-hand side of street, Proprietor W.M. Short 1871-3. Angaston was originally named German Pass but later renamed after George Fife Angas who settled in the area in the 1850s. The second hotel to be built in Angaston was the "New Inn" established and licensed in 1851. It was built by William Doddridge who arrived in South Australia in 1840 after first settling on Kangaroo Island. The hotel was later called the Commercial Hotel then Barossa Hotel. A second storey was added to the hotel in 1884
