Summary

Settler's shanty at Kingston, River Murray. This settlement had the advantage of pre-existing buildings from the Thurk sheep station. The Chairman was J Weatherall and D Holberton was the secretary. There were 21 married members and the population totalled 100. The settlement suffered from insufficient finance. The settlements were established by the South Australian government to mitigate the effects of the depression which affected the colony. Thirteen settlements were surveyed along the River Murray. This photograph shows a family standing in the lean- to at their home
