Summary

North west corner of Pulteney and Wakefield Streets, 15 April 1942, Pulteney Street frontage is 16 yards and Wakefield Street frontage is 16 yards. The Bank of Adelaide was erected in 1941. Compare with B 8166. Of interest is the elevated signal box raised from the footpath at first floor level. This enabled a guard to control the traffic lights for the trams crossing the intersection. At this time traffic lights were a rarity. The more important junctions had these controlling boxes while others were operated by the tram driver who signalled by hand with the aid of an iron bar carried in the driving cab.
