Summary

[General description] The Australian Mutual Provident Society Building. This symmetrical building is three stories tall, built around 1886 and its palatial style reflects confidence in a time of prosperity in South Australia. There is a massive portico over the middle section and main entrance of the building and classical statues flank the three front entrances. On the right is part of the E.S.&A. Buliding. [On back of photograph] 'King William Street, west side / 1887 / Right side of centre building abuts Gresham Place / Frontage: 23 yards'.
