Summary

Old and new jetties, Kingston. The town was named after Sir George Strickland Kingston, a South Australian politician, surveyor and architect. It is located on the shores of Lacepede Bay, about 150 miles from Adelaide. The railway was built connecting it to the outside world in 1876 when deep sea and lobster fishing was a significant industry. The first jetty was built in 1864-65 and was 511 feet long and is still used today. In 1876 a second jetty, about 4000 feet long was built but It was wrecked by storms in 1923 and 1956. The current jetty is a remnant of the original jetty.
