Writing case and letters
A leather writing case featuring a metal clasp and handle on the outside, with compartments inside to hold letters, paper and envelopes, pens and other writing materials. Inside the case were stored letters and papers relating to Samuel Grau Hubbe and family, and a small album of photographs of the five Hubbe children. See below for details.


Photograph album of the Ive and Bagot families
Photograph album thought to have been compiled by Eileen Dubois Ive (later Mrs John Frederick Bagot) daughter of Charles William Ive and Agnes Dubois. The album contains photographs of many family members and friends, at 'Acton', Woodville and other places, showing fund raising and commemoration days during and after the first World War, such as Cheer Up Society work and marches, events such as Repatriation Day, French Red Cross Day and the opening of the Soldiers' War Memorial on North Terrace. Eileen married John Frederick Bagot in 1915 before his departure to France with the 13th Light Horse brigade and this album includes a number of photographs presumably taken by John Bagot, of fellow officers, places in Egypt, France and Palestine, and of the Camel Corps. The album contains five additional loose photographs, six postcards and one newspaper cutting regarding the sale of Stradbroke, the Magill home of Mr C. L. J. Dubois (maternal grandfather of Eileen Ive) and these have been placed at the end of the album. The postcards and newspaper clipping have not been digitised.

These are taken from series 2 (items 1-14, 31H-31J, 48-49) and presented here to enable access. Mareeba Babies Hospital, Woodville Park
Mareeba Babies Hospital, Woodville as Red Cross Hospital No. 1 from 1914-18. A crowd has assembled as dignitaries arrive in an open car. Dr. Helen Mayo founded this independent hospital in 1913 but it was taken over by the government during WW1 as a Military Hospital, resuming as a babies' hospital after the war. The images, mostly uncaptioned, include his sister, Florence Emma Elizabeth (b.1906); a crowd observing fire damage to the Wallaroo Town Hall; interior and exterior views of hospitals in France and England where Allison recovered from war injuries; hospital staff; bedridden soldiers, including Allison, with their embroidered samplers on display (PRG 1471/5/31-33); men with crutches and walking sticks exercising after a snowfall; Australian Hospital Ship, 'Karoola'; and Allison in uniform, with walking stick, after his return to Australia on the 'Karoola'.
