Alfred Edward Simpson, Architect-in-Chief was born 1868 at Woodville. He attended Prince Alfred College and later, the University of Adelaide. One of his first buildings was the multi-storey Education Block. Later he worked on the Magistrates Court in Victoria Square. He was best known for completing the 1889 Parliament House. He supervised the building of the east wing. He died in 1940.
