PORTRAIT: Louise (Lucy) Morice, 1859-1951, kindergarten worker and social reformer and niece of Catherine Helen Spence who became her greatest friend. In 1905 she helped to found the Kindergarten Union of South Australia.

GENERAL: Book leaf from a book presented to Lady Victoria Buxton. Lady Buxton was the wife of the Governor of South Australia and was co-founder, with Mrs Harmer, of the Mothers' Union in the Diocese of Adelaide. She was also the first Diocesan President from 1895-1898. The book which this plate came from was presented to her when she left South Australia in 1899. A member of her family donated it to The Mary Summer House and it was returned to South Australia.

Union Steamship Company of New Zealand ship Marama probably photographed in Auckland. Commissioned in 1907, Marama served on the NZ to San Francisco service. With the onset of WWI she was requisitioned by the NZ government for duties as a hospital ship transporting wounded from the UK to NZ. After the war Marama returned to civilian service until being laid up in 1937.
