[General description] This two storey stone building stands on the south east corner of Waymouth and Bentham Streets. it has previously been the premises for Olympia Motors, distributors of Peugeot, Chic Cars and Riley. It also has been the premises of Len May, Signs, Painting Etc. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 200 / Waymouth Street, south side / March 2nd 1928 / This building was demolished in 1928 to make way for the Norwich Union building. See B 5429 and B 5477. / Waymouth Street frontage of corner premises is 8 yards.'

Waymouth Street, north side, 20th january 1961. Right side of the four storey Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society Limited building abuts Bentham Street. It was designed by architect Frank Kenneth Milne and built in 1928. The insurance company was founded in 1797 and was one of the oldest insurance companies transacting insurance business in the world. This building is known as Woodard House.

Union Bank south east corner of Gawler Place and Pirie Street. This two storey solid brick building has shutters on the windows, and tall porch, metal railings and a hitching post fence out the front. A gentleman in a top hat can be seen near the entrance.

View of Adelaide looking south east from the "Register" tower, Grenfell Street between 1863 and 1867. The view shows empty paddocks with washing lines billowing in the wind on the acres between Grenfell Street and Pirie Street. The spire of the Evangelical Lutheran Bethlehem Church in Flinders Street can be seen to the right of the photograph. A researcher suggests that the buildings are the Union Bank of Australia, then the manse, side of Wesleyan Methodist Church and that the spire is St. Andrews.

Bentham Street, Adelaide, west side, looking towards Franklin Street, on the 9th April, 1925. The extreme right is about 49 yards south of Waymouth Street, and the left side of the three storey buildings on the right is 71 yards south of Waymouth Street. The five storey portion of these buildings was erected by the S.A. Farmers' Co-operative Union in 1923-25, replacing their previous premises which were damaged by fire on the 21st February 1923. This building was remodelled from a former structure on the site and completed in 1952. For the building prior to alterations see B13021. In this photograph taken in 1954 Faraway House is festooned with Union Jack Flags possibly in preparation for the Royal Visit the following month

The building shown in the photograph is the IOOF Hall and stands next to the Australian Workers Union building. A barber shop is also incorporated into the AWU building.

[General description] Tradesman's premises on a wet day with a muddy road and cloudy sky. On the left is a billboard belonging to the S.A. Advertising Company,managed by W. Boyle. Prominent is an advertisement for performances by Paul Cinquevalli, a famous juggler, at Rickard's Tivoli Theatre, commencing Saturday, August 7th. In the centre is the premises of G.F. Sare [George Frederick Sare], plumber and gasfitter. Next door is Anstey and Gerard, builders and contractors, which has a horse drawn vehicle is framed in its gateway. Further advertisements for Hardy's Wines and Union Tobacco are seen. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 278 / Flinders Street, south side / 1909 / Right side of Anstey and Gerard's is 72 yards east of Pulteney Street.' For a portion of this building prior to alterations see B 7387. The Royal visit occurred in Adelaide at the time of this photograph - hence the Union Jacks and bunting fluttering in the streets.

This bluestone two storey house was acquired by the Women's Christian Temperance Union in 1911 when they moved from their premises in Wakefield Street to this building in Hutt Street. As well as alcohol problems the organisation promoted social reform issues including equal pay, poverty and domestic violence

Selby Street, west side, April 7th 1937, left side of school is 33.5 yards north of Wright Street and frontage is 10 yards. Grey Ward Nursery School was erected on a vacant site in 1936. The foundation stone for the Kindergarten Union of South Australia's (KUSA) first Nursery School was laid in 1936 at Grey Ward Free Kindergarten (founded in 1908) and the school opened in 1937 at 29 Selby Street.

Opened on 15th March, 1925, the property became Saint Mark's College, University of Adelaide. The frontage of house is 20 yards and left side of house is 138 yards east of Union Street.

There is a function in progress, as there are uniformed policemen standing guard outside and people can be seen seated inside the open gateway.
