Lady Katharine Way

Katharine Gollan, late Blue, nee Gordon was born in 1854 in Stirling, Scotland and moved with her family to South Australia when still young. She was adopted by her uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Donald Gollan and lived with them at "Burnside" near Strathalbyn. In 1972 she married Dr William Blue and had three sons and a daughter. Dr Blue died in 1896 and she married Samuel James Way in 1898. Lady Katharine Way and her husband Sir Samuel Way lived at "Montifiore", Palmer Place, North Adelaide. They married when he was 62 and she was a 44 year old widow with a grown family

Locomotive N Class. This was the type of engine used at the opening of the Strathalbyn line in September 1884. The photograph was taken in the 1880's.

Finniss Bridge

Finniss Bridge

Finniss Bridge between Goolwa and Strathalbyn. A researcher has stated that the bridge was "Built in 1866 and opened by the Governor Sir Dominic Daly on 24th March. The bridge was destroyed by a bushfire in 1882 and replaced with an iron girder bridge in 1884 using the girders from the Finniss River Railway Bridge at Finniss. The photograph was probably taken on the day the bridge was opened in 1866".

Side view of 'P.S. Nil Desperandum' at the river bank, with possibly the hull of 'Paringa' in Mannum Dock. The following information was provided by a researcher: Captain William Richard Randell owned the 'Nil Desperandum' from 1870s to the 1880s, and also owned the Randell Dry Dock at Mannum. Photographer Robert Stacy was a South Australian travelling photographer in the 1860s to 1880s. He had a shop and studio at Strathalbyn in 1870 and also had intermittent studios at North Adelaide.
