Motor accident on Frome Bridge, Adelaide

At about 6.00 am on Sunday 14 October 1923 Alfred William Parker of Highbury Street, Prospect, was driving his taxi cab No.11844 north across the Frome Road Bridge. The taxi ran into the balustrade hurling the ironwork into the river below. The gearbox of the taxi caught on the edge of the bridge stopping the taxi. Mr. Parker was not injured.

Francis Stewart Briggs standing in front of his D.H.4. Born in Calcutta, Briggs a Telegraph Operator joined the AIF in 1915 while living with his widowed mother in Prospect, South Australia. In 1917 he was given a commission in the Royal Flying Corps and at the end of the war flew Australian Prime Minister Billy Hughes between London and Paris during the Versailles peace talks. In 1920 Briggs pioneered the air route from Melbourne to Perth and return, and in 1921 between Melbourne and Alice Springs.

The artwork features a white house and barn, with smaller buildings or dwellings accross the valley. Cattle is fenced in paddocks around the house and more buildings beyond. The artwork suggests there has been a degree of land clearing and fencing in this area, although some remaining natural bushland is represented. The landscape appears very lush and green. There is a small hut in the left foreground.
