This is possibly No. 14814 Sapper John Stanley McBain of North Adelaide who worked as a plumber before enlisting on 19 January 1916, aged 26. He served with Divisional Signal Company 5, Reinforcement 4 and embarked from Adelaide on board the HMAT A53 'Itria' on 14 August 1916. He returned to AUstralia on 22 May 1919 and was awarded the Military Medal for courage and devotion to duty maintaining lines of communication on 25 April 1918.

[General description] Head and shoulders portrait of Sir Arthur Blyth with grey hair, moustache and beard. He is wearing a coat, waistcoat and a wing collar with a patterned tie. The portrait is mounted in an oval frame with the inscription 'Arthur Blyth' at the top. Beneath the portrait are the dates '28th March, 1866 to 2nd May, 1867 / 22nd July, 1873 to 2nd June 1875.' He was premier of South Australia three times, the first term being from the 4th August, 1864 to 22nd March, 1865. The dates mentioned on the photograph are the last two terms.

S.A. Northern Pioneers, 1850-59

Photograph of a photographic composite entitled 'S.A. Northern Pioneers 1850-59' comprising 120 portraits. The original mosaic was compiled in 1908 by Mora Studio, Rundle Street, Adelaide. The individual photographs were collected in 1906 and 1907 by stock agent Henry Howard 'Harry' Birt, who had been a drover and stockman in the pastoral regions of Australia from 1858 until 1880. He is depicted at B 8502/I5. The original of this mosaic was acquired by pastoralist and stock and station agent Samuel Joseph Stuckey. He died in 1912 and the fate of the original work is not known.

[General description] Head and shoulders portrait of Miss Roffe, seen in three quarter view. Her hair is arranged in the style worn by Queen Victoria at the time, parted down the centre and pulled back into a low chignon worn at the nape of the neck. [On back of photograph] 'Charlotte Edwin Roffe- aged 18 in 1836-37 / Photograph of drawing in crayon by the famous Sir Thomas Ewins R.A., used as the basis of Queen Victoria's portraits for the Dominions, in that and succeeding years. The Queen only gave a final sitting. The portrait at Government House, Adelaide is one of the originals by Ewins. Miss Roffe became Mrs. William Searcy.'
