Historical information

According to recent research by Dr Margaret Debenham, there exists a personal album kept by Ida Southwell Perrin (annotated in her own hand) that records her work as a portrait artist in the earlier period of her professional life as an artist. Ida Southwell Perrin later (in Edwardian times) became best known for her work as the illustrator of a major book on British Flowering Plants, with plates made from her exquisite water colour paintings. Perrin's record of this picture of John Ridley states that it was completed in 1882 and bought by Miss Ridley. Also on the facing page she states ...'A life size photoengraving of this portrait has been done for the town of Adelaide'.
