Anglican Bishop Augustus Short, who successfully established the Anglican Church in South Australia.

Photographic copy of a crayon drawing by Sir George Richmond, of Bishop Augustus Short, DD, first Bishop of Adelaide, 1847-1882. Augustus arrived onboard the Derwent in Adelaide in 1847. He returned to South Australia from Western Australia in 1849. He laid the first stone of St Peter's College in 1849. Governor Robe had allotted a site in Victoria Square as the position of the first Anglican Cathedral but after objections by the City Council the North Adelaide site was purchased. It was consecrated in 1878. Augustus Short was a fine scholar, thoughtful preacher, good businessman and an excellent administrator and pioneer bishop.

Alfred Edward Simpson
Alfred Edward Simpson, Architect-in-Chief was born 1868 at Woodville. He attended Prince Alfred College and later, the University of Adelaide. One of his first buildings was the multi-storey Education Block. Later he worked on the Magistrates Court in Victoria Square. He was best known for completing the 1889 Parliament House. He supervised the building of the east wing. He died in 1940.

Spencer J. Skipper of the Register staff. The Register was originally known as the South Australian Gazette and Colonial Register and later the South Australian Register was South Australia's first newspaper. It was first published in London in June 1936 and moved to Adelaide in 1837. Spencers father was founding editor of the South Australian Register. Spencer was appointed shipping reporter for the Register and also arts critic.
