Sir John Hindmarsh

Rear Admiral Sir John Hindmarsh was a naval officer and the first Governor of South Australia. He arrived in South Australia on board the "Buffalo" in 1836. Hindmarsh wanted the colony to be settled at Port Lincoln. Colonel Light chose the site of Adelaide, named for Queen Adelaide, King William IV's wife. Hindmarsh was governor for little over a year, an unfortunate episode in an otherwise distinguished career. His position was anomalous from the start.

Carte-de-visite portrait photograph of Mr. David Muir McFarlane. He married Miraim Smith youngest daughter of Samuel and Mary Osborne Smith of Yalumba, Angaston. Father of Jessie, Sidney, Herbert, and Muir, and brother of John McFarlane. He lived at Strathalbyn, Port Lincoln, and Malvern, and died in 1920. Pritchard Family Collection photographs

Photographs belonging to the Pritchard Family taken between 1868 and 1998. Some of these were taken by Hal and Sadie Pritchard, and include scenes and people taken at Hallett Cove, Adelaide City, and Port Lincoln. Some photographs show scenes of everyday life and work, including office spaces, the beach and a number of high schools in the Adelaide Metroplitan area. Also includes photographs of the Sea of Hands Festival, tombstones at West Terrace cemetery, some postcards and a menu from the R.M.S. "Ormuz".
