Screw steamer Merle at Blanchetown

It sank after a fire and lies just south of the railway bridge at Murray Bridge. There was also a Paddle Steamer 'Merle', which sank during a storm in 1917. It was built in Morgan in 1904 by Edward Dienier and named after one of his daughters. It pulled the barges Eva Millicent and Flo D until it sank during a storm in Lake Alexandrina in 1917, the crew and passengers taking refuge on the barge Flo until help arrived [See B 26224 for a better quality image].
