Album of views partly of South Australia, with some photographs attributable to the photographer Captain Samuel White Sweet. Views include street scenes in Adelaide and at the Botanic Gardens, Waterfall Gully, Morialta, and Strathalbyn. Several photographs may be of Aboriginal men and women of the Point McLeay area. The album includes nineteenth century views of Melbourne, Launceston & Hobart, Brisbane and Maryborough in Queensland and other places abroad including Ceylon, Malta, New Caledonia, and New Zealand. Some of these are by the noted photographers, Horatio Agius (Malta), Poul C. Poulsen (Queensland) and Allan Hughan (New Caledonia). The iron ship 'Taranaki', 1126 tons, docked at a port in New Zealand [iron ship, 1193 gross tons 1126 net tons. ON76749, 228.2 x 35.2 x 21.0. Built 1877 (1) R Duncan and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners James Galbraith, registered Glasgow, within a year or two owner was John Leslie. Before 1910 sold to Italian owners without change of name. A regular trader to New Zealand, operating under charter to the Shaw Savill organisation and usually thought of as one of their ships although always registered in the name of John Leslie apart from a year of two when it was in the name of James Galbraith, the senior partner of the Albion Line. Her last voyage to New Zealand appears to have been made in late 1899. Her usual port was Dunedin, although she made one visit to Wellington, Lyttelton and Timaru. See 'White Wings by Brett and 'Colonial Clippers' which mistakenly records that the ship was owned by Shaw Savill].

Driven ashore in the great gale of Sept. 1, 1902 at Port Elizabeth, Algoa Bay, South Africa (Sydney Morning Herald Sept. 4, 1902).

Built 1892 (6) Russell and Co., Port Glasgow. Owners J&W Goffey, registered Liverpool. c.1909 sold to German owners and renamed 'Alsterfee'. Later she was renamed 'Lucy Vinnen', then 'Tamara VI'. In 1921 she was sold to the Greek Government for use as a training ship and again renamed, this time becoming 'Mayotte', finally she was sold to the free port of Dantzig for use as a training ship and renamed 'Hedwig Hemsoth' and sold for breaking up in 1925].
