[General description] This hotel has existed since 1840 under the name Rob Roy and it is still extant in 2017. The licensee at this time is Mrs. T. Varley. This view shows recent renovations done to the earlier part of the hotel (on the left) with a rendered facade and parapet in the style of the '1920s. The wing on the right was built in 1881, architects being English and Soward. Penfolds Ports are advertised on the gate. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 523 / Rob Roy Hotel / Halifax Street, north side / The hotel stands on the east corner of Colby Place / The single storey cottage on the right stands on the west corner of Queen Street'.

South Terrace east, west corner of Louisa Street, showing "Metuenda", a private residence. Frontage: 19 1/2 yards. The large two storey double winged house has a recessed front door and overhead balcony. Across the roofs of all three parts of the house stands a balustraded parapet. The house stands on a prominent site on the corner of Louisa Street and South Terrace. The owner was Friedrich Christian Wilhelm Bruggemann who arrived in Port Adelaide from Bremen, Germany in 1856. He was aged twenty and his occupation was a saddler. The house was for some time used as a hospital or 'Patients' Home'.

A collection of 329 photographs of people, events and places on the Eyre Peninsula and west coast of South Australia. Places include Port Lincoln, Boston Bay, Kirton Point, Proper Bay, Warner, Myalpa Beach, Tod River, Lake Hamilton, Sleaford Bay, Woolshed Cave, Talia, Streaky Bay, Back Beach, Ceduna, Koonibba, Point Sinclair, Port Le Hunte, Penong, Kooringibbie Well. The album contains photographs documenting the Back to Port Lincoln Carnival celebrations, 7-14 February 1930; photographs taken at Ceduna of the Western Australian Centenary Air Race 1929 (also known as the East- West Air Race); the refuelling stop at Ceduna of the inaugural flight of Air Mail services between Adelaide and Perth 1929 and the 130th Anniversary of the Landing of Matthew Flinders at Boston Bay, 26 February 1932. A number of sailing ships and motor vessels visiting Boston Bay between 1929 and 1933 were photographed, among them SS Melbourne, Olive Bank, Hougomont, Viking, MV Phasianella, Minnipa, King Stephen, Moonta, Rhymney, L'Avenir, Grootekerk and the new aircraft carrier HMAS Albatross which was first commissioned in 1929. The photographs include some interesting images of farming and transportation on the far west coast of South Australia, and show glimpses of the lives of Aboriginal people at that time at Poonindie Mission, Koonibba Mission, Fowler's Bay and Ceduna region. The photographs in this collection were taken by E. F. Derbyshire during the years 1929-1933, when he as a commercial traveller for Clarkson Limited of Adelaide, suppliers of builders' tools and hardware. Postcard collection of Emily Sophia Groom

A collection of postcards and greeting cards collected by Emily Sophia Groom (nee Grovermann) during the early 1900s, with many cards depicting early SA. The inscription inside the album states "E S Grovermann, Blyth, 29-5-1906". Emily Groom was born in 1877 at Clare and married Harry Rowe (his mother's surname) Groom in 1931. Emily was aged 45 when she married and did not have children of her own. Locations in the postcards include Blyth and Clare, Tanunda, Gumeracha, Victor Harbor and Port Elliot, Adelaide, North Adelaide, and assorted interstate and international locations [See individual records for selected digitised postcards, which may be viewed online].

World War 1 and 2 era fundraising button badges

World War One era badges (also known as buttons or 'tinnies') collected by the R.S.L. Most badges were designed and created to be puchased as a fundraising interest, in order to raise money for various factions of the Red Cross. Included are badges created for occasions such as Australia Day, Violet Day, Army Nurses Day, and French Day, and for charity groups including the Red Cross, the Cheer-Up Society, the R.S.A. Building Fund (Returned Soldiers' Association, which later became the R.S.L.), the Wattle Day League, Soldiers' Home, Children's Patriotic League, Nursing Society, and the Y.M.C.A., as well as official peace badges marking the end of the war and various miscellaneous badges including a Christian Endeavour convention, fundraising carnivals and memorial gardens. Also includes some button badges from the inter-war years, 1919-1938, and from the Second World War, and other metal badges from WW1 and WW2. See below for details.

General work before sale to Australia, usually in the coal trade when owned in Port Adelaide, and used for the transport of Tasmanian timbers until wrecked, after sale to Hobart]
