The "Harbinger"
The "Harbinger" in the old basin at Port Adelaide. Buller and Conrad served on this ship. This iron ship of 1473 tons was built in 1876 at Greeock. Said to have been the last sailing ship built to carry passengers in the Australian trades, and constructed especially to try and outdo the "Torrens". She did not remain long in the South Australian trade, but became very popular in the Melbourne run

The "Essex"
The "Essex" at Port Adelaide. Launched on 1 November 1902 the Essex was constructed for the Federal Navigation Company by J.Brown & Co. of Glasgow. Until conversion to a cadet ship in 1919 she was fitted to carry up to 200 migrants. She sailed on her maiden voyage from Glasgow to New York on 26 December 1902 and was broken up in 1933.
