[General description] Pedestrians walk past the Church which was built in the 1850s and demolished in 1964. The roof of the Town Hall can be seen on the right. Methodist Church and Manse. The left side of the manse is 81 yards west of Gawler Place. An interesting Victorian building with high, ornate chimneys and a bay window, it was built, along with the church, in 1851. It was demolished in 1925 and replaced by the Epworth Building [see B 3945]. The Church was demolished in the 1970s, and stained glass, the organ and other valuable fittings were moved to the Stow Church building behind it, now called the Pilgrim Uniting Church. The congregation also joined the new Church.

Wesleyan Church and manse, south side of Pirie Street, Adelaide. Built in 1850 it was the Methodist 'cathedral' with seating for over 1000. In 1969 it amalgamated with the Stow Congregational Church and was demolished in 1972. Construction work on the right is probably part of the Town Hall. The far side of the church is 75 yards east of King William Street and the near side of the manse is 81 yards west of Gawler Place.

Pirie Street Methodist Church, November 29 1893. Church is 72 yards east of King William Street, frontage 25 yards. This church designed by Henry Stockey was started in 1850 and finished in 1852. This church uses the traditional building materials of yellow limestone rubble walling and pink bricks for quoins and trim to the doors and window openings.

Methodist Church, Pirie Street in 1933. The church is located behind the Adelaide Town Hall and was built in 1850 by Perryman and Son. It was opened in 1851 and later, in 1969, Pirie Street Methodist Church merged with Stow Congregational Church to became part of the newly formed Uniting Church.

It was built by the Methodist Church on the site of the old Methodist Manse as a commercial investment. The style is Gothic with a strong ecclesiastical feel. Pirie Street, south side, January 12th 1959. Left side of the central three storey building (marked witrh a dot on the photograph) is 37.25 yards west of Gawler Place. Frontage of the building (from the dot to "x" on the photograph) is 40 yards. For a view of this building in 1910 see B 5381. The Salvation Army's People's Palace can be seen in the distance. Some of the businesses located in the buildings nearer to the camera include: Atkins Limited, The Town Hall branch of the E & S and A Bank Limited, William Brindal and Sons and Epworth Books in the Epworth Building at Number 33 Pirie Street. Epworth Building was built in 1927 as administrative offices for the Methodist Church and the Methodist Book Depot. This unique building was built in the federation gothic design with a seven storey "U" shaped structure and was named after the birthplace of John Weslei in Lincolnshire, England
