Mundoo Barrage (Distant view Murray Mouth in background): In the foreground is the remains of an earlier barrage, which after being badly damaged, was turned into a bridge and causeway by local land owner. Between the barrage and the narrow neck of Mundoo Island is Varcoes Island. Looking south west towards the Murray Mouth. Mundoo Island on the left. Hindmarsh Island on the right and the barrage joins Mundoo Island and Hindmarsh Island.

River Murray Paddle Steamer, probably the "Grappler",Built in 1858, showing process of removing snags. Captain Brown was master in the late sixties, then J. Lindsay took command of "Grappler" on the 1st December, 1872. In the sixties the only other snagging boat on the river at all seems to have been the "Wardell" in Victorian waters. SWPS Melbourne, PSMelbourne, PS Industry (1), PSIndustry (2), PS Tarella, PS Oscar W, Frazer steam punt, Wardell steam punt and the current vessel Maratala were all used by the relative governments as snagging and work vessels on the Murray River.

The group is posing on a paddle steamer with some crew members in the foreground. The craft is moored next to a pile of wood for fuelling the boilers of the steamers.

Murray River steamer "Tyro"

River steamer 'Tyro' photographed moored on the Murray River. On board are several men and women enjoying a river trip. The PS Tyro was used for trading on the Murray River between 1872 and 1926. She was built by S Shetliffe and Sons at Goolwa. In 1897 she was almost destroyed by an exploding boiler.

Pyap Settlement, River Murray. The Pyap settlement commenced in March 1894 and was abandoned in 1903. One of the problems of the settlement was the limited experience of its settlers. They did not want to work communally. Irrigation was another problem and the lack of clear management. The name Pyap is believed to have come from the Aboriginal word for a River Murray fish. This photograph shows a family outside their shack/tent. A small child can be seen standing next to her mother
