River Murray lock under construction

River Murray lock under construction

One of the River Murray locks under construction. Huge amounts of timber were required to drive the steam engines which were the only source of "power" on the construction. Also huge amounts of timber 'piles' were used in the construction. The buildings on the bank are the 'workshops' and beyond these would have been the accommodation for the men involved and their families. It is possibly Lock 5 near Paringa, but there is insufficient detail to tell. (Information supplied by a researcher).
