Markaranka, River Murray

Markaranka, River Murray

Markaranka, River Murray, downstream from Waikerie in the Riverland of South Australia. An unidentified river boat is tied up beside a bank on which firewood is lying, possibly fuel for the boat. [A researcher suggests that the paddle steamer is probably the 'Etona', the Church of England mission boat on the Murray River. Mataranka Station was occupied (and owned?) by the Mallyon family; William Kingsnorth Mallyon was the designer and driving force between the erection of the various 'Mallyon churches'.] Another researcher suggests that this is the PS Menindie, purchased by the Markaranka Company to use as a pump to irrigate their property.
