[General description] Portrait of Rebecca Maria Murray, nee Godfrey, and her husband David Murray. Mr Murray is standing and resting his hand on the back of his seated wife's chair. With his brother William he started a retail drapery store in King William Street, which became the wholesale drapery D & W Murray, later the prominent Adelaide firm of Goode, Durrant & Murray. He was an MP in both houses and an avid art collector.

John Murray, junior

John Murray, junior

John Murray, junior, son of John Murray (1814-1886). His father John Murray senior of Murray Vale, Mount Crawford was famous as a breeder of pedigree sheep after his arrival in the colony and won many prizes at Agricultural Shows. John Murray junior was born on board the ship "City of Adelaide" when his parents were emigrating from Scotland to South Australia. He was also a very successful breeder of merino sheep. He was a judge of sheep and President of the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia, an elder of the Presbyterian Church at Mount Pleasant and a Justice of the Peace. He married Mary Scott and they had seven children.
