Nor' West Bend Homestead
Nor' West Bend Station homestead reproduced from a sketch by Mrs L Hines, based on an old photograph or sketch. The homestead was originally seven rooms which were built in a U shape about a central courtyard. It is situated fifty metres from the river and is well above the 1956 flood line. The buildings are made of limestone which was quarried from a hill nearby. It was built on the River Murray near Morgan and Cadell and was established in 1850. However, in 1941 overlanders Campbell and Levy took up Nor-West Bend Station, an area of 361 square miles around the present town of Morgan.

Birthday Homestead, on Oakden Hills Station. The girl in the photograph is Barbara Potts (nee Kidman) (b.10 April 1927), and the boy is Peter Kidman (b.16 April 1928), children of Thomas Kidman and wife Letitia (nee Conway).


The launching of the Eurimbla
The launching of the "Eurimbla" at Osborne in 192, taken from the slips as the ship prepares to enter the water. She was one of the two "Billy Hughes" ships built under contract to the Federal Government just after World War I, the other being the "Erina". The Commonwealth Government's shipbuilding venture was not considered a success and no more ships were built. The yards of Poole and Steele were put to a number of uses such as building gantries, railway rolling stock, dredges and barges for the Harbors Board and the bridge at Murray Bridge. The works were closed down some time before January 1937 when all plant was sold at auction. The property was then taken over by the Harbors Board.

Old and new Police Stations, Overland Corner

The P.S. "Marion" paddlesteamer on the River Murray. Previously believed to have been at Lock 3, Overland Corner, however a researcher believes this is Lock 4, below Berri.

Penola Railway Station
[General description] Penola Railway Station. It was one of several built to the same design by architect Alfred McBain Bonython at Moonta, Tailem Bend, Wallaroo and Murray Bridge. Railway officials stand in front of the building.


Native pine, Pinnaroo
Native pine tree at Pinnaroo on which a plaque was placed commemorating the first service held by Rev. J.H. Goss, Methodist Minister of Murray Bridge on 27th August 1905.

Point McLeay Mission Station
[General description] Adults and children standing outside the buildings and along the road leading to the Point McLeay Mission Station. The mission comprises of several small cottages and larger community buildings. Point McLeay Mission Station stands at the northern end of the peninsula between Lakes Alexandrina and Albert in the Lower Murray Region of South Australia. It was renamed Raukkan in 1982. Point Malcolm Lighthouse
[General description] The Point Malcolm Lighthouse and keeper's cottage stands on a stark rocky outcrop on the eastern side of the narrows between Lake Alexandria and Lake Albert. It was built to assist shipping of the Murray River trade with expecations of its future growth. It was built by local Strathalbyn builder Richard Trenouth and its light was first displayed on February 1st, 1878. It is probably the only inland lighthouse in Australia.


Church of Christ, Point Sturt
Church of Christ, Point Sturt. Point Sturt was formerly known as Sturt Peninsula and sits on the banks of Lake Alexandrina, located at the end of the Murray River just north of the Cooroong. The original inhabitants were the Ngarrindjeri, many of whom died from European diseases at first exposure in the early 1800s. Point Sturt Church has the honour of being the oldest rural congregation of Churches of Christ in Australia. A small building was erected at Point Sturt in 1861 and opened free of debt. Early evangelistic efforts saw 42 people added to the congregation in one year alone


"The Lady Daly", Steamer
[General description] 'Lady Daly' paddlesteamer at the Port Adelaide wharf. Passengers and crew line the decks and flags fly from the vessel's masts. City buildings can be seen in the background. A sternwheeler, she was built by Jackson and Murray circa 1861 and served successfully until 1878 when she was converted into a log barge. [On back of photograph] "Lady Daly' / name on top of wheelhouse / 1860-1865 ; Building on left is Wharf Hotel, licensee W.J. Gates 1860, 1861-1865'.


Presbyterian Church
This tall and impressive stone building is the new Presbyterian Church at St. Vincent Street, Port Adelaide. Stained glass windows taken from the old church (at the corner of Leadenhall and Marryatt Streets) were included in the design of the new church. (See B 7714). The first service in the new church was held on the 5th of February 1882 by the Reverend James Lyall. "Ravendale", Port Lincoln
[On back of photograph] 'Ravendale, Port Lincoln belonging to Andrew J. Murray Esq.' [General description] This house was originally built as the private residence of the resident Magistrate of Port Lincoln and was one of the early large houses in the area. The gabled roof appears to be shingle and there is an interesting wooden trim on the verandah. On the left is the outbuilding which includes stabling. In front of the house is an untidy complex of stockyards built from timber. Three men pose for the photographer in the foreground, one of them holding a horse [duplicate copy at PRG 458/1/1/32c].
