According to a researcher, the girl with the whistle is Linda Sutherland and the woman next to her probably her mother and team chaperone, Mrs. J. R. Sutherland. This Mt Gambier team were called the 'Robertaires' and this was their first competition.

A family member has confirmed that 'they are Charles Spencer Kaiser, Ellen Jean Kaiser, Heather Anne Kaiser, George Edward Kaiser, Theodore Charles Kaiser, Peter Ivan Kaiser, Francis David Kaiser. They are the children of Theodore Charles Kaiser Snr & Ellen Ruth Kaiser'. Another researcher has suggested that 'Theodore Charles Kaiser' was actually Theo John Kaiser, born 12 June 1953.

"Pine Hill", Mount Gambier
"Pine Hill", Mt. Gambier, the home of the Barrows family. William Barrows, sheep grazier, was a colonist of 73 years and had lived in the Mount Gambier district for 66 years. He arrived in South Australia onboard the "Pestonjee Bomanjee in 1854 and built a house at Mount Lofty. He was married to Lucy Jane Cobbledick and took his bride by bullock dray to Mount Gambier. Son William James and Beatrice Mary Barrows of Pine Hill on the Penola Road had three children. William Laurence Barrows, Olga (nee Barrows) McGowan and James Bryce Barrows. William James Barrows was also a sheep grazier.


Cave Gardens, Mount Gambier

Leg of Mutton Lake
[General description] A neat farm is nestled into the crater next to the Lake. It is probably the original forestry nursery, established in the 1870s, where many tree species were trialled with the aim of establishing plantations in the area. Sparsely treed hills form a backdrop. Compare with B 7837 for a view taken in the 1920s. [On back of photograph] 'Mount Gambier: Leg of Mutton Lake / Probably in the eighteen eighties.'

Carte de visite studio portrait of Margaret Preece, nee Callaghan/Calaghan, wife of Evan Preece of Mount Gambier. Margaret was an Irish orphan from County Cork who came to Tasmania with her sister under the London Emigration Scheme. She married convict Evan Preece (sentenced to hang for stealing a sheep with his brother John). When Evan was pardoned they left Tasmania with their 10 children and came, through Portland, to South Australia. Their last child, Alexander, was born in Mount Gambier in 1851.
