Acquired Oct. 1864 by Hy. Simpson and renamed 'Moonta'. Owners H Simpson, T Elder and RB Smith, registered Port Adelaide May 1884 Simpson Bros. and Elder and Smith. Broken up and register closed in 1900. Employed in coal trade between Newcastle, NSW, Wallaroo and Port Adelaide for many years. See 'Black Diamond Line' by Parsons]

George Street in Moonta. Two storied centre building is a branch of the National Bank, erected in 1866. (Note by Mr O Pryor) Another two storey building is along side the Bank and a single storey Chemist, Druggist and Bookseller is on the other side. Both of these smaller buildings have wide verandahs overhanging the footpath.

Richman's Engine House and Ore Concentrating plant. Stone building was completed in 1870. Length of stone building 42 feet, height 46 feet. The enginehouse was built between 1867 and 1869 using stone from Moonta Beach. It was used for crushing and concentrating ore from nearby shafts.

Hughes' Pump House, Moonta Mines - Ore Dressing. The function of the pump house was to dewater the underground workings on the mine's largest orebodies. These orebodies were worked over a length of 1000 metres and to depths of more than 700 metres. The pump house worked continuously for over 58 years. The horse whim can be seen in the background. This device is similar to a capstan, a rope is wound around the drum with both ends transversing several pulleys hanging down the mine shaft. As the capstan is turned one end is lowered, carrying an empty bucket while the other one is raised carrying a full load
