Letter from Ross to his mother, Jessie Smith, while on active service during World War I. Written in Palestine. Speaks of being in the midst of another advance, and mounted troops having advanced up to Nazareth and Haifa. Also mentions Ross having bombed a large railway junction, bombing the aerodrome at Jenin twice, heavy overall bombing with 5 tons of bombs dropped and 20,000 rounds being directed at the enemy and taking thousands of prisoners.

This country is some of the best I have seen, red flats that will grow anything. Recently had 6 in of rain in one fall. Cars & trucks bogged for days a few hundred yards from this cutting'.

There are quite a few pen and ink drawings done by Adelaide E. Chaffey Baker in th album in addition to photos.

Margaret Street is on the left side of the large house and garden. This photograph is on the left of a panorama comprising B 3477 - B 3479. Compare with B 3477, which is a similar view taken in 1904.


Brougham Place, North Adelaide
This photograph shows Brougham Place and Brougham Gardens, North Adelaide houses, parklands and distant suburbs. The house roofs of North Adelaide are receding into the distance behind the mansions lining Brougham Place. The small cottage with the striped verandah roof (centre of view) is soon to be replaced by a large Federation style house complete with turret. This can be seen in B 3473 which is a similar view taken in 1910 North Adelaide, looking north west from the North Adelaide Congregational Church / Acres 737, 738, 739. Compare with B 3489 and B 3490 which are similar views.


Brougham Gardens, North Adelaide
King William Road runs through Brougham Gardens and down past the Women's and Children's Hospital and St. Peter's Cathedral. Parklands and the city buildings form a backdrop. A horse tram passes a large billboard displaying advertisements for products including Terai and Amgoorie Teas and Burford's Soap. The right hand side of this photograph matches up with the left side of B 3461 to form a panorama. Adelaide, looking south across St. Peter's Cathedral from the North Adelaide Congregational Church / Acres 730, 720'. Compare with B 3462, B 4291, B 3492 for similar views.
