Free-For-All' at Wayville. The reinsman was T. Butterworth. 'Marie Limond' ridden by D. Coleman won the Glenunga Handicap at Victoria Park. E.H. Murdoch was the breeder of both horses. The silks of the jockeys have been colour tinted.

According to a researcher, Standish O'Grady was the son of Michael Standish O'Grady who migrated from Ireland with his 49 year old mother and three brothers. They lived at Tothills Creek and had four blocks there of 250 acres total, approximately. Standish I think went to the School of Mines Adelaide and may have worked for the Northern Territory Government as well as an Assayer. He had a brother and lots of cousins. His father built the Carrieton Hotel. His mother died in Adelaide. Father Michael Standish is buried at Salisbury old resident's cemetery. According to a researcher, 'Man fifth from left back row is not Standish O'Grady. The man at the end of row is.'

This photograph is probably from the Easter Monday race meeting (April 14th) at Fannie Bay, the meeting being reported in some newspapers as 'the first Northern Territory races'.

Morphettville Race Course and grandstand. Sir Thomas Elder funded the South Australian Jockey Club to enable it to own its own freehold property of 160 acres at Morphettville. The first meeting was held at these premises in 1876. In 1889 the first Adelaide Cup to be run at Morphettville and was won by "The Lawyer" . The previous Adelaide Cup race was run at Flemington and then abandoned for four years

John Crozier M.P was a founding member of the South Australian Jockey Club. He arrived in the colony from New South Wales after he drove his bullock teams loaded with his own wool. He was a station owner along the Murray before settling into his residence called Oaklands near Brighton. He grew wine on his estate and bred horses. He was a 'good colonist'.
