The Globe Inn, Rundle Street, Adelaide. 'The Globe stood on the corner of Rundle Street and Stephens Place (now 'Myer's Corner'). Opened in 1845, it reigned for half a century as rendezvous of squatters and all those who loved horses. It was John Carruthers who created the atmosphere, and Henry Elliott, one of the most popular of South Australia's hosts, developed it into a tradition. It was under his patronage that 'The Globe' saw the birth, heyday and decline of the first South Australian Jockey Club, the launching of the Hunt Club, and the inauguration of the Squatters Club. it was delicensed in 1908, and taken over by Marshalls.'
