Photograph album of the Parker and Davidson Families
The album shows aspects of station life at various sheep properties in the far north east of South Australia and the Broken Hill region, among them Buckalow, Bimbowrie, Oulnina Park, Telechie, Burta, Topar, Tantallon and Yalcowinna as well as visits to other stations in New South Wales and Victoria namely Morundah, Widgeongully and Tolarno. Three young women thought to be Grace Langloh Parker (1895-1987) and her sisters Wilga Maud (1898-?) and Una Geraldine Davidson, nee Parker (1901-1986) are central to many of the photographs and it may be that the album was compiled by Grace Parker. Holiday visits were made to Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, Inman Valley, Second Valley, Mount Gambier, Portland Victoria, Sydney and Tasmania. A number of photographs relate to the BHP towns, Iron Knob and Broken Hill. Two of the Parker daughters, thought to be Wilga and Grace, accompanied their Mother on a voyage from Sydney to the Celebes and Java in 1926, including sightseeing at Macassar in the Celebes, the Mount Bromo Volcano, Sand Sea, Borobodur, and other places in Java with the homeward voyage via Singapore, Port Darwin, Thursday Island and Cairns.

Group of people on the verandah of 'Summerlea', Victor Harbor
Group of people, mostly women and children, on the verandah of 'Summerlea', Coral Street, Victor Harbor. The house was owned by Mrs Ruby E. Stock (a widow) who lived there with her four children - Bessie, Bob, Ken and Gerald. It is believed that Mrs Stock is the lady seated on the right, with glasses, and that her three sons are in the foreground closest to the camera, one holding one of her (locally) famous dogs - she collected money for the Red Cross during World War 2 by tying collecting tins to the dogs. The woman 5th from left, not looking at the camera, is Miss Dorothy Graham (1889-1975) who worked at 'Summerlea' as the housekeeper for over 30 years; the woman to her right (4th from left) is possibly her co-worker Hilda Stevens.

River Steamer 'Marion'
[General description] River Steamer 'Marion' at mooring, built by Milang shipbuilder A.H. Landseer in 1896, first floated 1897. She had many changes to her superstructure over the years as her function changed. This photo was probably taken after Ben Chaffey of Renmark bought her (in 1908) and converted her into a passenger and cargo boat. There is a group of men in suits standing on both upper decks and there seems to be work in progress on the lower deck. The 'Marion' is still plying the River Murray today (2017) having been restored by volunteers.

River steamer "Marion"
River steamer "Marion" was one of the first paddle steamers to run cruises on the Murray River. She was built in 1896 at Milang to be both a work boat and pleasure craft. The owner died before she was finished so she was made into a barge and later into a paddle steamer. She began life as a hawking steamer our of Echuca. She had an engine which was imported from England. In 1908 she was stripped of her store buildings and rebuilt with accommodation for 8 passengers. She travelled upstream to Renmark then down to Goolwa and back to Morgan.

Ellen Liston
This is a portrait of Ellen Liston, writer of short stories and verse, during her stint as a goveness for the Hamp family at Nilkerloo Station near Elliston. She wears her long hair parted in the middle and is seated, looking away from the camera, and holding a sprig of wildflowers against her full skirt. It is generally accepted in the Elliston area that Governor Jervois named the town of Elliston in 1878 after her. According to a researcher Ellen Liston had left the district a few years before Elliston was established. The naming of the town may be from an individual associated with the Battle of Waterloo Anniversary, as Point Wellington and Wellesely on either side of Waterloo Bay is also associated with the Battle of Waterloo.

Mrs John Livingston
[General description] Mrs Livingston is seated for her portrait, facing the camera. She is probably in mourning for her husband (who died in 1886) as she is wearing a widow's cap. Her name is Catherine (nee Steele) and she bore fourteen children one of whom, John (junior), became a politician and Member of Parliament. She and her husband owned a grazing property, Currutum near Mount Gambier. [On back of photograph] 'Mrs John Livingston. Arrived at Mt. Gambier about 1848'.
