The jetty and part of the beach to the South of it on Proclamation Day. Many spectators and horse drawn carriages line the beach seeking shade. The jetty is full of people enjoying the celebrations of Proclamation Day. Many small boats and two ships are steaming past the jetty.

Colley Reserve and the newly opened Luna Park on the foreshore at Glenelg. The big dipper, mini golf, ice cream kiosk and the tracks for a miniature railway can be seen in the reserve. The crowds are enjoying the festive surroundings.

Esplanade, the residence on the right (Seafield Tower) is really a pair of semi-detached summer residences erected for Sir Henry Ayers (north portion) and Sir Thomas Elder. It was built in 1876 as two self contained 15 room residences that shared the communal tower. Victorian mansions stand alongside in Albert Terrace.

Glenelg Institute was constructed in 1875 after the foundation stone was laid by Sir Henry Ayers on 11 Decembe. It opened as the Institute on 19 October 1877. This classical bluestone building was designed by Edmund Wright and sits on Moseley Square just off the beach. Originally it contained lecture rooms, concert hall and a library.

The esplanade, looking from foreshore. The Glenelg Jetty and the separate ladies section which was added in 1881 can be seen in the far distance. Buildings line the esplande and the beach and dunes stretch up to the houses.

South of Glenelg jetty. People walking along the jetty can be seen on the extreme left of the photograph. Prosperous houses line the Esplanade which runs south from Moseley Square. Horses and carriages are parked on the beach while their owners walk or swim in the shallows.

Showing bridge over the Patawalonga which carries Military Road over the Patawalonga. This is about a mile from the mouth of the creek and about 300 yards east of the seashore and sits on the border between Glenelg North and the West Beach Recreation Reserve.

The foundation stone of the Wesleyan Church at Glenelg was laid June 5, 1876. It was built on land purchased from the estate of the late Dr Kent and has a frontage on Moseley Street. It was built in the Grecian Doric style and seated 300 people. The pastor was the Rev. J Nicholson.

Glenelg esplanade and foreshore - looking south from the rear of the Town Hall. This lofty view shows the lawns on the foreshore along with kiosks and shelter sheds. The southern beach has a wide expanse of sand, shallow lagoons and a gently sloping shore into the bay providing safe swimming. Many people are taking advantage of the shade provided by the jetty.

Note on the back of the photograph from the town Clerk of Glenelg (8/11/1941) says "Camera facing south, building in immediate foreground is the Old Family Hotel. Two storied building directly south is Miss Dow's Old School, orginally built by Abraham Scott and then owned in turn by Messrs. Hughes, Andrews, Crozier, and now Tennant's Estate: at present used as a guest home known as "Dunkirk". Two storied house south-east used to be Giles' Property, now owned by Mr Hubert Sando situated in Pier Street".

Following a decline in the number of clients the park was moved to Sydney to become the Luna Park Sydney
