Gawler Chambers
[General description] Gawler Chambers, soon after its construction in 1914. This five storey building was designed by architects Thomas English and George Klewitz Soward. The facade is of red brick with cream detailing, and is symmetrical in design, featuring a central Tudor style castellated parapet.There are four balustraded balconies on the two upper floors. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 19 / North Terrace east / South Australian Company's Offices / Gawler Chambers / North Terrace / c. 1914' (Another hand) 'Left side of Gawler Chambers abuts Gawler Place; frontage: 34 yards'.


Manuscript plan of 'The Town of Port Gawler, South Australia'
Large hand-coloured manuscript plan of 'The Town of Port Gawler, South Australia', created by surveyor P.L. Snell Chauncy. The plan depicts the intended layout of the town between the two branches of the Port Gawler Creek, including a largely grid-pattern street layout, two squares and a circus, designated land for public gardens and a market, and a cemetery on the edge of the town. Allotments for sale are numbered. A small inset shows the location of Port Gawler within the Adelaide region. A scale in feet and chains is included. Some staining is apparent around the edge of the plan.

[General description] Seated portrait of Mrs Maria Gawler, nee Cox, wife of Colonel George Gawler. She is wearing the full skirt of the period, with a lace shawl and cap. She was engaged in the philanthropic, educational and religious life of the colony during Governor Gawler's tenure.
