Monument on the site of the first survey of Adelaide
View of the monument situated on the north-west corner of North and West Terraces marking the starting point for Colonel William Light's survey of Adelaide. The plaque reads: 'Hereabouts in January 1837, the survey of the City of Adelaide was begun. Here, also in 1837, were erected the first public offices - Land and Survey - of the Province of South Australia. Adjoining these offices, which were built of wood, were the dwellings of James Hurtle Fisher, the first Resident Commissioner, and William Light, first Surveyor General. The buildings were destroyed by fire on January 22nd 1839. Erected by the City Council 1928'. Also includes a close-up of the plaque.

Papers of Sir John Cockburn
Papers relating to Sir John Cockburn, former Premier of South Australia, comprising monographs "The records of the Cockburn family" by Sir Robert Cockburn c.1913 and "The house of Cockburn of that ilk and cadets therof" by Thomas H. Cockburn-Hood c.1888 and John Cockburn's "Roll of the National Australian Convention which met in Sydney, 2nd March 1891" with a full page newspaper clipping of the event, and similarly for the 2nd Convention in 1897. Also includes a letter from young 'J.A. Cockburn' to his mother, family trees, a copy of 'Gray's Elegy' and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings related to John Cockburn. Other items include commissions, appointments, a birth certificate and extracts of an entry in a register of marriages, a testimonial, a certificate from the South Australian Medical Board, a personal invitation to the opening of the establishment of Parliament in Canberra and documentation pertaining to his knighthood and a photograph taken of him in later life in London.

World War 1 era fundraising button badges
22 World War 1 era badges, and two World War 2 era badges, (also known as campaign buttons or 'tinnies') donated by a member to the South Australian branch of the RSL. Most badges were designed and created to be purchased as a fundraising interest, in order to raise money for various factions of the Red Cross. Included are badges created for occasions such as Australia Day, Wattle Day and Violet Day, as well as badges designed for charity groups including the Red Cross, the Cheer-Up Society and the R.S.A. (Returned Soldiers' Association, which later became the R.S.L.). See below for details.

A 'recruiting window' for the A.I.F. in John Martin's Rundle Street store featuring a large military fist holding a smoking red swastika branding iron, about to brand a group of people. It caused a great deal of interest at the time and a number of people contacted the watchman thinking the window was on fire owing to the artificial smoke created. [From scrapbook 24].
