Oddfellow's Arms Hotel, 10th Street Bowden. The proprietor at the time of the photograph was Thomas Youds and he held this position from 1891-1897. A family group standing outside the hotel could possibly be Mr Youds, his children and the hotel staff.

Panoramic view of Bowden. A small boy is sitting on a wooden fence on the edge of the North Adelaide Parklands. The view behind him shows the suburbs to the west and north west of Adelaide. Tall chimneys can be seen in the distance. The village of Bowden was established in 1839 by James Hurtle Fisher. Some of the early industries in the area include a steam flour mill, candle works, Dowie's Tannery, gas works, Bowden Bottle Company, Taylor Brothers Brickmaking and Clay Works, Dowie's Boot Factory. There was also a Bible Christian Chapel, Lawton's School, Bowden Building Society and a Cricket Club.

William Bowden

William Bowden (1824-1909) married Hannah. His parents were John Bawden and Agnes Bawden, nee Turner. William arrived in South Australia in 1838 on board the "Royal Admiral". He retired from farming when he was 84 years old. William's father John Bowden/Bawden arrived in Adelaide January 18, 1838 with his four children - William (14), John, Agnes and James Coombe (3) John Bowden/Bawden was a dairy manager and pastoralist

Dillon Family of Bowden

Cabinet portrait photograph of the Dillon Family of Park Terrace, Bowden. The couple standing are likely to be Patrick Dillon (born c.1848, and died 8 August 1937, aged 88) and his wife, Mary Agnes (nee Kitson, born c.1860/61, and died 2 July 1942, aged 81). They married on 22 February 1979 in Mt. Barker, and lived at Bowden and later Hindmarsh. They are buried at the West Terrace Cemetery. The births of some of their children are unregistered, so the boys in this photograph may be sons or nephews. One of them is probably John Francis Dillon (born c. 1881, and died 24 December 1912, aged 31). The eldery man in the photograph is probably Patrick Dillon's father Francis who died on 9 September 1887, aged 87 at Hindmarsh. He could also possibly be the father of Mary Agnes Dillon.
