[General description] This stone church was consecrated in 1848, built on land bought for the purpose by George Morphett and Samuel Stocks from McFarlane in 1843. It has a bell tower which was added at a later date. Part of the graveyard can e seen on the right. [On back of photograph] 'St James Anglican Church, Blakiston / 1895'.

St. James' School, Blakiston, on the south side of the main road between Littlehampton and Nairne . "Erected opposite the Church in the glebe paddock in 1848" : (Church News, 7 May 1897, page 1). The school was originally a day school, and a Sunday School in 1933. Rumour has it that the old school house was demolished by rampaging cattle some time in the mid 20th century.

St. James Church, Blakiston is the fifth oldest Anglican Church in South Australia and was consecrated by the Lord Bishop of Adelaide in 1848. The church is constructed of sandstone and contains the Chapel and Rector's changing room.

Diary kept during a journey from Adelaide to Alice Springs [through] MacDonnell Ranges, 15 September - 28 December 1871, with stores and equipment for the Overland Telegraph, written by Edwin John Harris, then aged 20. He was in the company of R.P. Boucaut (in charge), E. Flint, & ? Rollo. After the 'Lubra' arrived at Port Augusta on 29 September Messrs Mueller, Watson, Clarke, Bowley and Bell joined them. The diary concludes on their arrival at the Todd Creek in Alice Springs. Diary last page has 'A.G. 14 September 1872' circled.
