Laying of the foundation stone of St. Therese's Church, Col. Light Gardens. L-R: The Archbishop of Adelaide (Most Rev. Dr. M. Beovich) and Monsignor M. Bayard. The school and parish church date back to 1924. The school-church was constructed from wood and iron. In 1928 Colonel Light Gardens became an independent parish. An aerial rose petal shower became a regular feature. During World War II a camp for soldiers was established in the district.

Letter, dated 9 November 1919, written just prior to departure from England by Ross Smith to Dora Horwood, and then carried on the historic flight from England to Australia. Also included is the original envelope bearing a 'first aerial mail' stamp, plus an additional envelope from the Prime Minister's Department, in which the letter was forwarded to Dora Horwood. The front page of 'The Journal' (Adelaide, Tuesday evening, March 23, 1920) documenting the successful flight is also included. [See also PRG 18/28/29 and D 8913(L).]

Travel fellowship from the Churchill Memorial Trust - photographic record

The series consists of photographs, transparencies, negatives and proof sheets relating to J.S. Ostoja-Kotkowski's overseas study tour in 1967. The Churchill Memorial Trust granted Ostoja a fellowship which enabled him to visit the U.S.A., Canada, England, Holland, Germany, Poland, France, Italy, Japan, India and Hong Kong. It enabled him to visit art galleries, computer laboratories, electronic music laboratories and to attend the Montreal Expo where he had a mural in the Australian pavilion. He met people such as Billy Kluver, Bell Laboratory, Professor Ussachewsky, Princeton University, Ray Bradbury, Sir Hubert Read and Marcel Marceau.
