Presbyterian Church, Wallaroo
[General description] The Presbyterian Church at Wallaroo was designed in the Italian Gothic style by architect W. Lewis. The foundation stone was laid by the Reverend Ralph Drummond on the 12th September, 1864. The church was opened approximately a year later.

Smelting Chimney, Wallaroo
Smelting Chimney, Wallaroo. The other parts of the smelting works were demolished between 1923 and 1936. The initials WWH (faintly visible on front of chimney are those of Captain WW Hughes, one of the principal owners of the Wallaroo Mine. Chimney now used as a shipping beacon. The height of the chimney was increased considerably in approximately 1908.

Wheat stack at Wallaroo. Bagged wheat was first shipped from Wallaroo during the 1870's, Large wheat stacks remained a presence in the town, especially after the harvest. In July 1917 the stacks contained 2,500,000 bags of grain

Wallaroo Jetty. (Sweet Adelaide 804). Wallaroo had three jetties and was South Australia's second busiest port. During the gradual change from sail to steam both kinds of vessels were in port at the same time and a large population was needed to manually handle the loading and unloading of goods

Wallaroo Phosphate Company Ltd. Phosphate rock for fertiliser was manufactured at Wallaroo from 1900. It was one of the largest inward cargoes. It was used for the local farms. It was situated near Charles Terrace

Wallaroo Town Hall
Wallaroo Town Hall was built in 1902 and destroyed by fire in 1917. It was rebuilt in 1918 and a memorial arch was erected in front of the Town Hall to honour the men from the town who lost their lives in World War I

Wallaroo Smelters
Wallaroo Smelters were constructed in 1861 by the owners of the Wallaroo Mine to process the ore from there and from the Moonta Mine. The smelting works were at one time the largest smelter outside Swansea in Wales. The mines and smelters were closed down in 1923.

Wallaroo Smelting Works
Wallaroo Smelting Works began operation in 1861. After the Moonta & Wallaroo mines closed in 1923, the smelters operated at a reduced capacity until 1926. The smelting works is an extensive complex of buildings with numerous chimneys.

Wallaroo Jetty
Wallaroo jetty. The jetty, built in 1861, replaced a landing stage where copper was shipped to other ports. Wallaroo is a deep water port which enabled ships to moor directly along side the jetties. Wheat and wool were also exported and coal, mining necessities, timbers for the jetties, potatoes were imported.
