Light Horse Regiment

Light Horse Regiment

9th Light Horse Regiment led by Major H. M. Parsons. Born at Inman Valley, South Australia, Parsons landed at ANZAC Cove 22 May 1915. He returned to Australia in 1916 after being reported 'dangerously ill'. He returned to active service in July 1916 to command a Squadron of the 9th Light Horse. In 1918 he received the D.S.O. He is buried at Victor Harbor.

Lieutenant Colonel Mary Stewart Douglas

Lieutenant Colonel Mary (May) Stewart Douglas, OBE, OAM. Born 20 January 1904 in Victor Harbor, May Douglas served as Captain and Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association 1923 to 1941, Assistant Controller of the Australian Women's Army Service 1941 to 1943, Controller of the Australian Army Medical Women's Service 1943 to 1946, State Commissioner of the South Australian Girl Guides 1952 to 1958. Awarded the OBE for her service to Girl Guides and the OAM for service to veterans, she died on 6 May 1999.
