Salopian Hotel, McLaren Vale, corner of Victor Harbour Road and Bethany Roads. The site is the corner of Victor Harbor Road and Bethany Road approximately 1 mile south of McLaren Vale Post Office. The Salopian Hotel was also known as Gumprs. J Gumprs was the proprietor from 1851-1853, 1856-1858. This hotel was possibly the Old Salopian and later Volunteers in 1860. Among the collection are photographs from the PS 'Marion' on its last trip from Berri to Mannum in June 1963 before being handed over to Mannum National Trust (images 32-63). Most images undated. Papers of Collins and Murdoch Family

Records comprising correspondence, papers, photographs, cards, war records and correspondence, ephemera and travel documents belonging to members of the Collins and Murdoch families, across generations. Records mostly relate to Enoch Henry Murdoch and his daughter Daphne Murdoch and Frederick William (F.W.) Collins including diaries and his World War I correspondence.

Postcards received by Annie Beattie

A collection of postcards received over approximately ten years by Miss Annie Beattie, together a smaller number received by her younger sister, Emmie. The earlier ones to both sisters (approximately 1906-1910) are addressed to 'Dunn Street, Lower North Adelaide' [the family home]; during the same period a few are addressed 'c/- Jas. Marshall & Co. Rundle Street, City' [Jas. Marshall & Co. ran a drapers. importers & general furnishers' business at 24-34 Rundle Street]. There are a number addressed to Annie 'c/- Mrs Bowman, "Poltalloch", via Milang' (ca.1907); others are addressed 'Martindale Hall, Mintaro' (ca.1908-1909). By 1911 Annie appears to have returned to Adelaide. A final postcard is written by 'E.B.' [Emmie Beattie] to Miss Eva Decre. The postcards feature various views of Adelaide and surrounds, together with cards from Mount Gambier, Port Victor / Victor Harbor, Mildura, Kapunda, Wallaroo, Port Lincoln and Quorn. First South Australian tramway

First South Australian tramway

A horse-drawn tram on the Goolwa to Port Elliot railway line. Identified as the 'first South Australian tramway', this line was opened in 1854, with horses used to pull the trams until the introduction of steam engines in 1884. The line was extended to Victor Harbor in 1864 and continues to operate as a light rail link known as the Cockle Train.

It housed the stationmaster and a ticketing office. It was a station on the Victor Harbor line. The photograph shows the extensive rose gardens adjacent to the station.
