The Causeway at Victor Harbor was constructed in 1867 from the existing pier adjacent to the railway station. The Victoria Pier was built between 1862 and 1864 and contained the swimming baths on either side (for men on one side and women on the other). A deeper swimming area was built between the causeway and spur in 1899. The baths had a shark proof fence around them. By 1905 the baths were so popular that accommodation was added, with changing rooms and an entrance fee of threepence. The baths were demolished in 1955 following a severe storm.
