Premises of W. Rorhlach, Machinist Builder & Shoeing Smith. The small building has a corrugated iron roof on which is painted in large letters 'Use Amgoorie Tea'. Several men stand outside, and another is driving a horse-drawn cart along the road in front of the building. Albert Thiele was an apprentice at the shop prior to serving in World War II, but this photograph likely pre-dates his apprenticeship.

Album relating to early South Australia and Northern Territory

Photographs, sketches and news clippings pasted onto loose album pages, relating to the early history of South Australia and the Northern Territory. Includes captioned photographs of the kangaroo hunting expedition near Lake Albert in November 1867 at which Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, was a guest. Other items in the albums include photographs and copies of sketches of Aboriginal people, and images of surveyors and land selectors in the Northern Territory. A number of unrelated clippings and images have been added to the album, possibly by Daly's children.

Three photographs were probably taken at the Gove airbase near Yirrkala during the American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land in 1948 (1948 Expedition). They depict some of the members of the 1948 Expedition including Charles Mountford and his wife Bessie. The National Geographic Society, the Smithsonian Institute of the United States and the Australian Government sponsored this joint American-Australian Expedition. This expedition was one of the largest and most comprehensive scientific expeditions ever undertaken in Australia. Please refer to Mountford Collection PRG 1218 for more information regarding the 1948 Expedition.
