Private Patrick Weir
An 'In Memoriam' card for Australian soldier 3697 Private Patrick Weir of the 27th Battalion, A.I.F. Patrick Weir, a Boilermakers Assistant, was born 16 December 1882 at Birkenhead, the eldest son of Captain Patrick Weir, Port Adelaide Harbourmaster, and Helen Weir. He was killed in action in France on 2 September 1918 when hit by a German machine gun bullet.

William de Passey, a member of the Light Horse headquarters staff 1913-1918, photographed with his wife and family in the garden of their home in Kent Street, Adelaide. At this time he held the rank of Major and was the Camp Commandant at Mitcham Camp, South Australia during the 1st World War. Behind: Edwyna ('Queenie') May de Passey (nee Read) and Lieutenant Roy de Passey 3rd Tunnelling Coy. In front: Major William de Passey, his wife Louisa Amelia Augusta (nee Wegener), with the daughter of Roy and Edwyna, Una Erica, (later Summerville).

Three officers of the 32nd Battalion
Three officers of the 32nd Battalion. Left to right: Lieutenant J.K. Paul; Colonel Coghill; Major John James Hughes. These officers trained the volunteers of 32nd Battalion, camped at Cheltenham Racecourse and their first major action was at the now famous Battle of Fromelles in July 1916, where they suffered great casualties. Some men from Coghill's original squad are among those recently identified from mass graves, such as Private Walter Hainsworth Pretty of Kilkenny. Coghill was the first Headmaster of Woodville High School and also taught at Adelaide and Unley High Schools. [A similar photo appeared in 'The Chronicle' Saturday 13 November 1915, page 27. George Pegler
Service number 18488 George Bentley Pegler, a staff member of the South Australian Harbors Board. George enlisted in the AIF on 26 October 1917 and served in France with the Australian Army Medical Corps. He returned to Australia in 1919. From 1923 to his death in 1950 he held the position of Harbourmaster at Cowell.

A collection of mounted photographs relating primarily to exploration and maritime topics in South Australia and the Northern Territory, together with a small collection of portraits of people associated with the Royal Geographical Society. Two group portraits of Aboriginal people, from Port Lincoln and from Kopperamanna are included (photographs 9 and 15). Photographs 67-70 relate to the Flinders Centenary 1902.
