Douglas Bruce

Douglas Bruce

Douglas Bruce, formerly of H.M.C. Port Adelaide, arrived in South Australia on the "William Nichol" from Greenock via Dublin with Captain Elder on 27 June 1840. He worked for his brother Robert Bruce at his station "Wallelberdina" on the eastern shore of Lake Torrens. They had 25,000 sheep. Douglas died after a fall from a horse in 1873.

Agnes and Samuel Dodson

Ambrotype portrait of Agnes Kerr Dodson, nee Clark, and Samuel Dodson. They married in 1859. Agnes is wearing a bonnet and holding a parasol. In a brown leather case with a gilt metal frame. Samuel was a miller at Encounter Bay and died on 27 December 1867. Agnes married William Nicholls in 1874.

GENERAL: A car belonging to the Gaffney family bogged in a sandhill near New Well during their trip to Birdsville; Mr. Gaffney kneels by the car which has had brush wood placed beneath it as three women prepare to push the vehicle. A researcher has added that the car is a stripped down 1915 Ford Model T. This photograph is reproduced on Page 16 of 'The Mail' for Saturday May 13th, 1916. With the photograph is the story of the drive.
