West front view of Anlaby homestead, Alexander Buchanan in topee. Buchanan was the manager of Dutton's Anlaby Station. Under his charge the original flock of sheep increased from 5,000 to 60,000. Buchanan was highly regarded and served as a magistrate in the district. The homestead was established in 1839 and is the oldest Merino Stud in South Australia. The pioneer family of Duttons owned the property for over 130 years. There are over 40 buidings on the property. The main house has over 23 rooms complete with a servant's wing, butler's pantry and a flower room. There are 4 acres of gardens around the main house.
