[General description] The Manse is an well proportioned two storey stone house with rendered quoins and window surrounds. The bay windows have timber shutters. It was built in 1871, eight years after the completion of the Baptist Church on the left.

Prominent is an advertisement for performances by Paul Cinquevalli, a famous juggler, at Rickard's Tivoli Theatre, commencing Saturday, August 7th. In the centre is the premises of G.F. Sare [George Frederick Sare], plumber and gasfitter. Next door is Anstey and Gerard, builders and contractors, which has a horse drawn vehicle is framed in its gateway. Further advertisements for Hardy's Wines and Union Tobacco are seen. A large billboard in the centre of the view features advertisements for Dewar's Whiskey, Reynella Brandy and various shows including that of the magician and illusionist Chung Ling Soo at the Tivoli. For a view of site surrounded by iron fence see B 12355 taken in 1852 when site was occupied by Laycock's Monumental Works. The Church has a hexagonal steeple topped by six stone spires.

The two storey house has a bay window, shutters, a wrought iron lace fenced balcony and stands next to the Grote Street Baker that offers 'dinners baked daily'. More brick buildings can be seen through the trees looking west along the southern side of Grote Street.

The statue of Queen Victoria, unveiled 1894, is in the centre of Victoria Square. Fred Herring Monumental Sculptor business is on the northen corner of Grote Street and Victoria Square. His display of headstones and statues is visible. Globe Chambers stands on the southern corner of Grote Street. A row of cottages stand facing the Square on the corner of Angas Street.

A photographer photographing a scene in Wakefield Street, Adelaide, during the Duke of Cornwall and York's visit. The Chronicle newspaper of 13 July 1901, page 16, reported "The Metropolitan Fire Brigade had constructed a fireman's arch across Wakefield Street in front of the head station. Two fire escapes, with ladders extended to full length, towered to the height of 60 ft., and afforded a splendid opportunity for a display of bunting. Two steamers, with their brass work well burnished, enhanced the imposing character of the display. From the ladders was flying a naval welcome to the Duke of Cornwall. ..." The Fire Station is on the right. The extreme right of the photo is 18 yards west of Roper Street, and the left side of Simpson's is about 70 yards west of Hanson Street.

The Our Boy's Institute, a branch of the Young Men's Christian Association, ran camps and provided employment assistance for young men. [General description] This newly completed three storey building has a Venetian Gothic facade in carved sandstone. It was built for physical education and included a swimming pool. It is registered with the National Trust. The Institute was founded to further the physical and intellectual education of working class young men, with a strong emphasis on Christian values. Wakefield Street, south side, 19 October 1898, showing the home of Sir Langdon Bonython. Far side of house is 92 yards east of Hutt Street. Frontage of house and garden: 43 yards. The single storey bluestone house has a large bay window at the front and numerous rooms with different shaped pitched roofs looking over the garden which is on the east of the house. The whole property is surrounded by a bluestone wall, wooden fence and hedges.
