The criss-cross structure (centre) supports an aquaduct which carries water to the water wheel in the crushing house (left). Concentrating sheds can be seen in the foreground. The pool was opened in 1932 by Mr EW Crewes and the instructor was Mr Nation. It has a diving board and changing sheds.

Post Office Burra combined with the Telegraph Office in 1859. The Telegraph Office opened in 1860 and the Post Office combined with the Telegraph Office in 1861.The photograph shows an attractive single storey symmetrical stone building featuring a two storey middle section. Three arched windows stand on either side of the central doorway. The whole building stands raised above the footpath.

Redruth Gaol, Burra was erected in 1856 and was the first gaol in South Australia outside of Adelaide. It cost 3200 pounds. It was reopened in 1897 as a girls reformatory after the prisoners were transferred to Gladstone Gaol. Thomas Perry was gaol keeper for 25 years and the gaol was referred to as Perry's Hotel.

Woollacott Jinker, Burra

Woollacott jinker, used as a conveyance for the huge boiler required for the pumping plant at the Burra mine. 40 bullocks were employed to haul that piece of iron over the hundred miles from Port Adelaide to Kooringa. The jinker has three enormous wheels on one "pelly" and a tremendous nave. The jinker measured 30 feet over all and the tyres are 16 inches wide. It was used in the 1850's.
