Historical information

Following the success of the South Australian Women's Trust Suffrage Centenary celebrations in 1994, which raised awareness of South Australia's unique history and achievements, the concept of a South Australian Women's Trust was initiated by the YWCA of Adelaide. An Implementation Committee was appointed and a 'Proposal for the Establishment of a South Australian Women's Trust' was prepared in 1998. In 2001 the Department of Premier and Cabinet allocated $150,000 for 'Look at Us Now!, a major project which took place from the 13-21 October as part of South Australia's national centrepiece event to mark the Centenary of Federation. The project brought together women's organisations across the State to mount a weeklong series of events and activities in Rundle Mall, including an exhibition at the David Jones Gallery to highlight how South Australians were influenced by Federation.
