Summary

Portrait of Pilot-Officer Alex Gordon Pritchard of the RAAF in uniform. P/O Pritchard was the only son of the SA State Secretary of the RSL, Mr A.G. Pritchard. He attended Adelaide High School and worked as a school teacher on the Yorke Peninsula before he joined the Air Force in 1952, completing his pilot's training with No. 6 Squadron at Amberley, before being posted to No. 1 Bomber Squadron in Malaya for a nine month operational tour in Lincoln bombers against Communist terrorist strongholds. He was commissioned in February 1954 and returned to Australia in April 1954 for a refresher course at East Sale, Gippsland, Victoria, and was killed when his Wirraway aircraft crashed at Pearsonvale when he was practicing forced landings, aged 25, on 13 July 1954.
