Summary

WW1 fundraising badge for Violet Day 1916, featuring a white cross in the centre with a scroll underneath with the text 'in memory', and 'Violet Day 1916' around the top, on a violet background. See also item no. 52 (below). Violet Day was first held on 2 July 1915 and became an annual event to commemorate those who fought and died during the war. The violet signified modesty, sweetness, and faithfulness, and came to signify the sorrow of the community.
